Nemanjići is a historical drama series from Radio Television Serbia (RTS). It is also the most expensive and lavish production the channel has invested in, costing nearly 3 million euros. During the series the viewer witnesses the birth of the kingdom of Serbia through 200 years of the medieval ruling Nemanja dynasty. The project was produced by Miško Stevanović, and directed by Marko Marinković from a script by Gordan Mihić.
Digitalkraft was tasked with creating all the visual effects shots for the series, which eventually numbered around 800. The work included extensive matte paint to create the landscape and architecture of the medieval Serbian lands, sky replacement due to modern intrusions of telephone and power lines, restoring the landscape of forests and pasture, and of course crowd multiplication for the battle scenes.
“It was a bold and brave undertaking for both RTS and Digitalkraft” said Ivan Pribićević the company’s CEO and VFX Supervisor. “But our crew of artists rose to the challenge and produced some of their finest work, on budget and on schedule.”
