EHO

animated short film

In 2017 Film Center Serbia announced the awards for Short Animated Film (co-production) and Boriša Simović in collaboration with Digitalkraft was awarded €10,500 to produce EHO (ECHO).

The script, written by Boriša, was based on a story by Svetozar Vlajković, and follows a five year old boy who spends a day in the countryside with his father, whom he occasionally sees, in a game of calling “echo”. After the emotional impact that the game and the presence of his father evokes in him, he returns to his mother’s house, where there is no place for such outbursts of “irrational” behaviour towards the world.

Directed by Boriša Simović and Kosta Rakićević, Digitalkraft helped put together a team to work on bringing this enchanting story to life under the VFX supervision of Ana Pakljanac. Creatively led by Aleksandar Zolotić, animated by Uroš Obradović, and produced by Ivan Pribićević, the film has a unique but classical look. To capture the boy’s emotions as he heads out on an adventure with his Dad the film utilises both 3D and 2D animation, luscious matte painted scenery and an evocative piano soundtrack performed by LP Duo. The music score was composed by the famous Serbian composer Miloš Raičković, while Radivoje Raša Bukvić, Jelena Đokić and Lenka Simović loaned their voices to the characters.

The film has now garnered several prizes including the prestigious ARPA festival award for Best Short Animated Film in Los Angeles; at the Montecatini International Short Film Festival in Tuscany it was awarded Best Animation and it also received the Best Animation prize at Moscow Shorts.
