Case Studies:

EHO

animated short film

ECHO grew from a screenplay by Boriša Simović, based on a story by Svetozar Vlajković, into a multi-award-winning hand-crafted short.

It follows a five-year-old boy through a single day in the countryside with the father he rarely sees — a day built around a game of calling out “echo”. When the intimacy of that game gives way to his return to his mother’s house, there is no longer room for such “irrational” tenderness toward the world.

Directed by Boriša Simović and Kosta Rakićević, ECHO was brought to life by a team DigitalKraft assembled and co-produced, under the VFX supervision of Ana Pakljanac. Creatively led by Aleksandar Zolotić, animated by Uroš Obradović and produced by Ivan Pribićević, the film carries a look at once singular and classical — blending 3D and 2D animation with lush matte-painted scenery. Its emotional register is carried by an evocative piano score composed by Miloš Raičković and performed by LP Duo, with voices by Radivoje Raša Bukvić, Jelena Đokić and Lenka Simović.

Since its release, ECHO has been honoured across the world — Best Short Animated Film at the prestigious ARPA Festival in Los Angeles, Best Animation at the Montecatini International Short Film Festival in Tuscany, and Best Animation at Moscow Shorts. The film was originally developed as a co-production with Film Center Serbia.
